When thinking of “protein”, you may think “steak and eggs”, or “falafel and humus”, or of a sports supplement, perhaps? What about a cancer drug? Or a vaccine?

Phytofactories 2023, organized by the Luxembourg Institute for Science and Technology (LIST) took place in Luxembourg on 7-9th of June. Phytofactories 2023 was a two- and half-day focused conference about the science and technologies potentiating the development of known and novel high value products from plants.
Chart Biotechnology attended the BPI conference in Amsterdam 9-12/May. The program for these conferences is so comprehensive and there are several parallel sessions, so one needs to focus, otherwise we spread ourselves too thin.
Plants can be used to make many products that we use, but it is not sustainable to continue to expand the land areas where we grow plants, so we need to find new ways of sourcing all these plant products, that do not involve more land being exploited.
